1  Project Assistance / Betatesting / Re: Forge: Chapter One - 3rd beta-stage (Post to volunteer as tester) on: October 18, 2013, 07:39:49 PM
Hey, I got an email telling me to come here. As a huge fan of the original Loom, I feel it is my duty to help with this in any way that I can. Since voice acting didn't work, I'd love to help with the beta testing. How can I get started?

EDIT: I really should read the OP more carefully. I forgot to list my beta testing experience! I have tested a couple different games in the past, and have discovered game-breaking bugs in one of them. It was an RPG, and I discovered that after a certain cutscene, the player character reappeared not only in the wrong place, but in a place that made continuing the game impossible. I also have a great ability to notice typos.

I have been playing games, including adventure games, since I was very young, and I have a very large knowledge base. I have actually written an article on the Zork series that was published in a book. I love to experiment in games and find secrets, a skill which might come in handy in finding bugs in unexpected places.

I hope I will be able to assist you.
2  Project Assistance / Audio / Re: English voice actor here! on: June 16, 2012, 08:00:08 PM
Nothing too major. I have done voices for two fan dubs of Japan-only video games. Both games were for the PC Engine, a system called the TurboGrafx-16 abroad. Funnily enough, there was a port of Loom for that system! Unfortunately, neither dub has been released yet, but hopefully that will change soon. Smiley

Edit: Oops! I forgot to talk about the roles I played! Here's some basic info:

Game: Legend of Xanadu II; Role Played: Nuse, an obnoxious scholar (Minor Character)

Game: Ys IV: Dawn of Ys; Role Played: Soldier #2 (Bit Part)

Nuse in particular had lots of lines. If neccessary, I'll try to get permission to share some samples of my work.
3  Project Assistance / Audio / English voice actor here! on: June 15, 2012, 01:47:32 PM
Hey, I was wondering if I could try out for a role in this. I loved Loom when I was a kid, playing the CD version that came with our first CD-ROM drive, and I would very much like to be a part of this.

I am willing to try out for any male role and I do have some voice acting experience. Please let me know what I should do to audition.

Thank you. Smiley

I just listened to the Audio Drama for Loom for the first time on YouTube (my copy didn't come with it), and it made me realize...

When we get to the voice acting phase, we should do something similar for Forge!

We could have all the actors from the game do their roles for the drama, and release it as an MP3 (or something similar) with the game. I would love to hear the backstory of the Guild of Blacksmiths and Rusty that can't be fit into the game. It would also be a good place to learn the full history of the gauntlets, as well as getting people up to speed on the story so far without padding out the introduction in the game itself.

The Audio Drama for Loom is probably one of the greatest feelies ever, and doing it for Forge would provide some nice continuity between games!
5  General Discussion / Adventure Gaming - Loom Island / Greetings from a fan of Loom! on: April 05, 2011, 04:13:17 PM
When I learned of this project, I think my jaw dropped a little.

Loom was one of my first experiences with computer games; the CD version was packed in with my family's first CD-ROM drive. I clearly remember watching my mom play it, but the details are fuzzy in my mind. I do know that I have very fond memories of the game, and remember being quite disappointed that the game ended when it did; I always wondered what happened afterward! Now I have a chance to find out!

I'd like to help in any way that I can to see this game finished. If you need any help with writing or voice acting, I'd like to give it a try.

Thanks for starting this great project!
